Aceon dosage: What is the right amount?
Aceon dosage for adults:
The usual starting
Aceon dosage is 4 milligrams daily, which can be taken as a single
dose or divided into two smaller doses. Your doctor may then continue
to increase your Aceon dosage until your blood pressure is in control,
to a maximum of 16 mg per day. Usually a sufficient dosage is in the
range of 4 to 8 mg per day.
If you have been
taking a diuretic, your doctor may ask you to discontinue it 2 - 3
days before you start taking Aceon. If you need to continue the
diuretic without any interruptions, your doctor may prescribe a
reduced dosage of possibly 2 to 4 mg daily than increase your Aceon
dosage as necessary. Your doctor may also add a diuretic to your
regimen if your blood pressure is still not adequately controlled with
Aceon alone.
This medication
has not been tested among people with severe kidney disease. Your
doctor may start you at a dosage of about 2 mg or less per day if you
have mild kidney problems. Your Aceon dosage may then be increased
gradually to not more than 8 mg per day.
Aceon dosage for children:
Aceon has not been
tested for children.
Aceon dosage for older adults:
Your doctor may
take special precautions when prescribing Aceon for older adults.
Higher doses (which are usually above 8 mg a day,) are usually only
prescribed for older adults with an extra level of caution.
Aceon overdosage:
The usual warning
signs of an Aceon overdosage are symptoms of excessively low
blood-pressure, including lightheadedness and dizziness. If you
suspect an Aceon overdosage you need to contact your doctor
immediately, or go to an emergency room nearest you.
